For a late birthday present, Ron decided to take me to an incredible restaurant for an amazing dinner and go to a "cool" place for a drink afterwards. If anybody has ever seen the movie, Lost in Translation, with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson, the bar and grill that shows all the Tokyo skyline is the New York Grill. It's located on the 52nd floor of the Park Hyatt Hotel in Tokyo. A 5 diamond hotel and 5 star restaurant inside. We sat near the open kitchen and got to watch all the chefs prepare each meal. We were served like any other millionaire that evening. After our sensational meal, we sat at the bar area, which is really a lounging area with live jazz music. The whole thing was fabulous, and the views were amazing. The whole time I just couldn't stop thinking and saying; "We're in that awesome place from the movie!"
After the New York Grill, we heard about Tokyo's very own ICE BAR. Oddly enough, it's named Absolut Ice Bar, Tokyo. Everything is ice, the seating areas, the bar, the sign, the floor and ice skulptures, even our drink glasses. They give you a state-of-the-art looking cloak and gloves to wear inside. Patronage time is limited to 45 mintues as to avoid hypothermia. The temperature showed -7 degrees. Although, to some of you that is probably not too cold. It was a little difficult to sip from the ice glasses, the rims were very thick and made my lips numb after every sip. But it was a lot of fun, and a wonderful belated birthday present.
